Qatar Advocates Comprehensive Approach to Combat Islamophobia
Geneva, The Gulf Observer: The State of Qatar has urged the adoption of a comprehensive approach to tackle the root causes of Islamophobia, emphasizing that disrespect for religions and incitement to religious hatred exacerbate social disharmony and human rights violations. This call was made during a statement delivered by Second Secretary Sheikh Sultan bin Khalid Al-Thani at a side event to celebrate the International Day to Combat Islamophobia, held within the framework of the 55th session of the Human Rights Council.
Sheikh Sultan bin Khalid Al-Thani underscored that while Islamophobia is not a new phenomenon, it has seen a resurgence fueled by the dissemination of misinformation, particularly by political entities and leaders. He noted that negative stereotypes and hatred against Muslims have been instrumentalized to garner popular support for certain political parties.
Highlighting the mechanisms through which Islamophobia spreads, Sheikh Sultan bin Khalid Al-Thani pointed to organized ideological campaigns utilizing both online and offline media platforms, as well as research centers, often with the backing of extremist government policies and practices.
The State of Qatar emphasized the necessity of a comprehensive approach to combat Islamophobia, one that delves into the root causes of this pervasive practice.
On the occasion of the International Day to Combat Islamophobia, Sheikh Sultan bin Khalid Al-Thani called upon nations to unite in solidarity and cooperation to foster a world where all individuals can live in peace and harmony, free from the specter of discrimination.
