Sri Lanka Targets $15 Billion Digital Economy by 2030, Says PM Dr. Harini Amarasuriya

Colombo, The Gulf Observer: Sri Lankan Prime Minister Dr. Harini Amarasuriya has reaffirmed the government’s commitment to transforming the country into an innovation-driven nation, setting ambitious targets to expand the digital economy and strengthen the country’s technology sector by 2030.
The Prime Minister announced that the government aims to increase the size of Sri Lanka’s digital economy to US$15 billion by 2030, raise digital exports to US$5 billion and develop a skilled digital workforce of 200,000 people.
She made these remarks while attending the second day of the 26th Sri Lanka Economic and Investment Summit (SLEIS 2026), held on October 13 under the theme “Nation Building in the Digital Age.”
The government’s targets reflect its broader ambition to accelerate digital transformation, promote innovation and strengthen Sri Lanka’s competitiveness in the global economy.
Expanding the digital economy is expected to support the development of technology-based industries, increase export opportunities and create new avenues for employment, while strengthening the country’s capacity to participate in the rapidly evolving global digital marketplace.
The proposed expansion of the digital workforce also underscores the importance of developing technical skills and human resources to meet the growing demands of the digital economy.
The summit brought together stakeholders to discuss economic development, investment opportunities and the role of digital transformation in shaping Sri Lanka’s future growth.
Through these initiatives, the Sri Lankan government aims to position innovation and digital development as key drivers of economic growth, export diversification and long-term national development.
