Tajikistan, Pakistan Sign Landmark Cricket Cooperation Agreement to Boost Sport’s Development in Central Asia
Islamabad, The Gulf Observer: The Tajikistan Cricket Federation (TCF) and the Pakistan Cricket Board (PCB) have signed a landmark cooperation agreement aimed at accelerating the technical, institutional and grassroots development of cricket in the Republic of Tajikistan.
The strategic partnership marks a significant milestone in the development of Tajik cricket and establishes a long-term framework for cooperation in coaching, player development, cricket administration, infrastructure, high-performance programmes and technical education.
The agreement reflects the shared commitment of the two cricket boards to promote the growth of the sport across Central Asia while further strengthening sporting and people-to-people ties between Tajikistan and Pakistan.
Under the newly signed Memorandum of Understanding (MoU), the PCB will provide comprehensive technical assistance to the Tajikistan Cricket Federation in several key areas. These include the appointment of internationally qualified Pakistani coaches to work with Tajik national teams, development of elite coaching education programmes in line with International Cricket Council (ICC) standards, and training and certification of umpires, match referees, scorers and cricket administrators.
The cooperation framework also envisages the establishment of a National Cricket Academy in Tajikistan, grassroots cricket programmes in schools, universities and local communities, women’s cricket development initiatives, high-performance camps for national and youth teams, and player exchange programmes.
Technical cooperation will further cover sports science, strength and conditioning, injury prevention, player welfare, video performance analysis, modern cricket analytics, domestic competitions and talent identification systems.
Under the partnership, Tajik players will also have opportunities to participate in training camps and development programmes at leading cricket academies in Pakistan, enabling them to benefit from the expertise and experience of Pakistani cricket professionals.
Pakistani technical experts will assist the Tajik federation in improving batting, fast and spin bowling, wicketkeeping, fielding, match strategy, leadership, sports psychology and fitness management in accordance with international best practices.
High-Level Meeting in Islamabad
The agreement follows a high-level meeting in Islamabad between senior officials of the Pakistan Cricket Board and Ambassador Extraordinary and Plenipotentiary of the Republic of Tajikistan to Pakistan, Yusuf Sharifzoda.
The meeting focused on expanding bilateral cooperation in cricket, strengthening technical partnerships, promoting coach education, developing cricket infrastructure and creating sustainable development pathways for young cricketers in Tajikistan.
Both sides emphasized that cricket can serve not only as a sporting platform but also as an important instrument of cultural diplomacy, youth engagement, education and friendship between nations.
PCB officials reaffirmed their commitment to supporting the Tajikistan Cricket Federation through technical expertise, educational programmes, coaching exchanges and institutional capacity building.
Ambassador Yusuf Sharifzoda’s Diplomatic Initiative
The progress made towards establishing the historic partnership has been significantly facilitated by the diplomatic leadership and initiatives of Ambassador Yusuf Sharifzoda.
Recognizing the potential of cricket as a vehicle for youth development and international cooperation, the Ambassador worked to establish direct institutional links between the Tajikistan Cricket Federation and the Pakistan Cricket Board.
Through strategic engagements with PCB leadership, cricket academies, sports institutions and private-sector partners, the Ambassador helped facilitate discussions and negotiations that culminated in the comprehensive cooperation agreement.
His diplomatic efforts have extended beyond formal consultations to include opportunities for cooperation in coaching education, infrastructure development, sports management, investment and international cricket exchanges.
Ambassador Sharifzoda has highlighted the rapid global growth of cricket and its potential to provide Tajik youth with opportunities to participate in international competitions while promoting friendship and mutual understanding between the peoples of Tajikistan and Pakistan.
He has also emphasized the role of sports diplomacy in strengthening bilateral relations and opening new avenues for educational, cultural and economic cooperation.
Working Visit to Sialkot
As part of his working visit, Ambassador Sharifzoda travelled to Sialkot, internationally renowned as a major global centre for cricket equipment manufacturing.
During meetings with executives of leading sports manufacturing companies, discussions focused on establishing long-term cooperation for the supply of ICC-standard cricket equipment to Tajikistan.
The discussions covered the production and procurement of professional cricket bats, international-standard cricket balls, protective equipment, training nets, practice facilities, bowling machines, fielding equipment, team uniforms, high-performance training accessories and cricket-pitch maintenance equipment.
The Ambassador also explored possibilities for customized cricket equipment carrying the official branding of the Tajikistan Cricket Federation, as well as potential future investment and cooperation in sports manufacturing.
Tajikistan’s Emerging Role in International Cricket
Ambassador Sharifzoda highlighted the Tajikistan Cricket Federation’s membership of the Asian Cricket Council (ACC) and the International Cricket Council (ICC), which provides Tajikistan with opportunities to participate in international competitions and benefit from development programmes, technical assistance and educational resources offered through the international cricket system.
The Federation’s strategic objective is to establish cricket as one of the fastest-growing sports in Tajikistan and position the country as an emerging cricket nation in Central Asia.
The cooperation agreement between the TCF and PCB is expected to contribute substantially to improving technical standards, coaching quality, grassroots participation, governance and cricket infrastructure across Tajikistan.
