Azerbaijan, Ukraine Discuss Expanding Energy and Economic Cooperation
Kyiv, The Gulf Observer: Economic cooperation remains an important dimension of relations between Azerbaijan and Ukraine, Azerbaijani Foreign Minister Jeyhun Bayramov said on August 6 at a joint press conference with Ukrainian Foreign Minister Andrii Sybiha.
Bayramov highlighted the long-standing presence of Azerbaijan’s State Oil Company (SOCAR) in the Ukrainian market, noting that the company has operated in Ukraine for decades and continues to maintain an active presence in the country.
He said the two sides had held dynamic and substantive discussions on new and additional areas of energy cooperation between Azerbaijan and Ukraine, reflecting the growing importance of energy security in bilateral relations.
The Azerbaijani foreign minister noted that Azerbaijan currently supplies natural gas to 16 countries worldwide, including 12 European countries, 10 of which are members of the European Union.
Against this backdrop, Bayramov said Azerbaijan would be ready to supply natural gas to Ukraine if necessary, emphasizing that such cooperation could contribute to strengthening Ukraine’s energy security.
He further pointed to the potential for Azerbaijan and Ukraine to cooperate on energy security beyond their bilateral framework, saying the two countries could contribute to energy security across a broader geographic area.
Bayramov’s remarks underscore Azerbaijan’s interest in expanding economic and energy ties with Ukraine while strengthening cooperation in areas of mutual strategic interest.
