Vietnam PM Stresses Ensuring Uninterrupted Energy Supply Amid Regional Crisis

Vietnam PM

Hanoi, The Gulf Observer: Prime Minister Phạm Minh Chính has underscored that under no circumstances should there be a shortage of energy—particularly petrol—for production, business, and daily consumption, while chairing a meeting of the Government’s standing members in Hanoi on Saturday.

The meeting reviewed the Government’s response since late February to an energy crisis triggered by developments linked to the Middle East conflict, along with the implementation of the Politburo’s Conclusion No. 14 issued on March 20 regarding supply security and fuel price stabilisation.

Participants noted that timely, flexible, and effective measures have been taken, and the situation is now largely under control, with national energy security being maintained.

The Prime Minister has actively engaged in diplomatic and economic coordination efforts, including holding telephone talks, sending letters to leaders of several countries, and working with major corporations and ambassadors of energy-producing nations in Vietnam to ensure a coordinated response. Deputy Prime Ministers have also directed ministries, sectors, and enterprises to closely monitor developments and promptly address emerging challenges.

A range of measures has been introduced to stabilise fuel prices, including the use of the petrol price stabilisation fund and adjustments to taxes and fees. These efforts have helped keep domestic fuel prices lower than those in most countries in the region despite prevailing global pressures.

In his concluding remarks, PM Chính emphasized the importance of both immediate actions and long-term structural reforms. He directed that fuel supply management be approached within the broader framework of socio-economic development, political stability, public order, and improvements in citizens’ living standards.

The Prime Minister further stressed the need to support ambitious economic growth targets—aiming for double-digit expansion by 2026 and beyond—while mitigating potential risks.

He also called on relevant ministries, sectors, and enterprises to strictly and effectively implement the Politburo’s directives under Conclusion No. 14 to ensure sustainable energy security in the evolving global context.
