Vietnamese Chess Masters Achieve Success at Asian Youth Chess Championships in Kazakhstan

Hanoi, The Gulf Observer: Vietnamese chess masters achieved remarkable success at the Asian Youth Chess Championships, which concluded on June 21 in Kazakhstan. The tournament saw young Vietnamese players excelling across various categories, contributing to a strong performance for their national team.

Lý Khả Hân emerged as the champion in the Girls’ U8 category, securing eight points after nine matches on June 20. Hân maintained an unbeaten record with seven wins and two draws, showcasing her exceptional talent and determination.

In the Girls’ U12 category, Vietnamese players Nguyễn Minh Chi and Trần Lê Vy won silver and bronze, respectively. Meanwhile, in the Girls’ U18 category, Nguyễn Hồng Nhung secured a silver medal, further highlighting the prowess of Vietnamese female chess players.

In the Boys’ categories, Đầu Khương Duy was the only Vietnamese player to secure a top-three finish, earning a bronze medal in the U18 category.

Earlier in the tournament, Lê Vy triumphed in the standard chess event on June 19 in the Girls’ U12 category, scoring 7.5 points from nine matches to claim the top spot. In the Girls’ U14 category, Lê Thái Hoàng Anh finished third, taking home a bronze medal, while Trần Ngọc Minh Duy earned silver in the Boys’ U16 category.

After 12 days of intense competition, Vietnam placed third in the overall medal tally, with a total of 10 golds, 16 silvers, and 15 bronzes. The Asian Youth Chess Championships featured 640 young masters from 32 countries and regions, competing across six age groups from U8 to U18 in boys and girls disciplines in standard, rapid, and blitz chess categories.

The Vietnamese chess team’s impressive performance at the championships underscores their growing strength and potential in the international chess arena.
