Tô Lâm

Hung Yen, The Gulf Observer: Party General Secretary Tô Lâm attended the launching ceremony of the tree planting festival celebrating the Lunar New Year (Tết) in My Hao township of the northern province of Hưng Yên on Wednesday, corresponding to the 8th day of the first lunar month.

The annual tree planting initiative was originally launched by President Hồ Chí Minh on November 28, 1959, and has since evolved into a nationwide movement and cultural tradition. It aligns with Vietnam’s national project to plant one billion trees during the 2021-2025 period.

Speaking at the event, Trần Quốc Văn, Chairman of the Hưng Yên Provincial People’s Committee, emphasized the province’s dedication to promoting tree planting within the community.

Since 2022, Hưng Yên has successfully planted 126,633 trees, exceeding the set target by 173.5 per cent. In 2024 alone, the province planted 38,404 trees, surpassing the planned target by 60 per cent. Additionally, 185 streets have been developed with new trees, and trees have been planted across urban areas, industrial zones, rural communities, schools, hospitals, public buildings, and cultural sites.

The total investment in tree planting initiatives across the province has reached VNĐ92.6 billion (US$43.67 million), he noted.

Chairman Văn called upon local authorities, businesses, and residents to actively participate in the 2024 tree planting campaign, ensure proper care of newly planted trees, and maintain green spaces. He emphasized the importance of achieving the 2025 tree planting target ahead of schedule.
