Wang Yi Meets SCO Secretary-General and Successor in Beijing
Beijing, The Gulf Observer: On Friday, Chinese Foreign Minister Wang Yi met with Shanghai Cooperation Organization (SCO) Secretary-General Zhang Ming and Nurlan Yermekbayev, who is set to assume the position of the next SCO Secretary-General. The meeting took place in Beijing, with discussions focused on the SCO’s development and future prospects.
Wang, who is also a member of the Political Bureau of the Communist Party of China Central Committee, commended Zhang for his significant contributions to the development and growth of the SCO. He also congratulated Yermekbayev on his forthcoming appointment, offering full support and commitment to facilitating his work and the functioning of the SCO Secretariat.
Over the past three years, under the leadership of member state heads and the collective efforts of all SCO members, the organization has made significant strides, Wang noted. He emphasized that China, currently holding the rotating presidency of the SCO, is fully dedicated to advancing the work of the organization. Wang expressed confidence in the SCO’s bright future and reaffirmed China’s commitment to collaborating with other member states to enhance the organization’s role in stabilizing international order, fostering prosperity, and contributing to the rejuvenation of its member countries.
Zhang, the current Secretary-General, highlighted the achievements of the Secretariat over the past three years, attributing its success to the support of member states and China. He noted that the organization, guided by the Shanghai spirit, has promoted practical cooperation across various fields, bolstered its international influence, and worked to improve the well-being of people across the region.
Yermekbayev expressed his admiration for China’s leadership in the SCO and pledged to continue supporting the Chinese presidency’s initiatives upon his tenure. He emphasized the importance of collaborative efforts in preparing for the upcoming SCO summit next year.
