Wang Yi Proposes Three-Step Approach to Solving Palestinian Issue
Beijing, The Gulf Observer: Chinese Foreign Minister Wang Yi proposed a three-step approach to resolving the Palestinian issue on Tuesday, during the closing ceremony of a reconciliation dialogue among Palestinian factions. The event, which saw the signing of a declaration to end division and strengthen unity by 14 Palestinian factions, underscores China’s commitment to peace and stability in the Middle East.
Wang, who is also a member of the Political Bureau of the Communist Party of China Central Committee, emphasized that the Palestinian issue remains at the heart of Middle East conflicts. “China harbors no self-interest concerning the Palestinian issue. We were one of the first countries to recognize the Palestine Liberation Organization and the State of Palestine and have always firmly supported the Palestinian people in restoring their legitimate national rights,” he remarked.
Addressing the ongoing conflict in Gaza and its expanding spillover effects, Wang outlined China’s proposed three-step approach:
Promote a Comprehensive Ceasefire:
Wang stressed the urgency of achieving a comprehensive, lasting, and sustainable ceasefire in the Gaza Strip to ensure humanitarian assistance and relief access. He called for greater international unity on the ceasefire issue, emphasizing that immediate cessation of hostilities is crucial.
Post-War Governance and Reconstruction:
Upholding the principle of “the Palestinians governing Palestine,” Wang highlighted the necessity of initiating post-war reconstruction in Gaza as an urgent next step. He called on the international community to support Palestinian factions in forming an interim government with national consensus to effectively manage Gaza and the West Bank.
Full UN Membership and Two-State Solution:
Wang proposed promoting Palestine to become a full member of the United Nations and starting the implementation of the two-state solution. He advocated for a more significant, authoritative, and effective international peace conference, with a clear timetable and roadmap.
Wang reiterated that a ceasefire and humanitarian relief are immediate priorities, “the Palestinians governing Palestine” is the foundation for post-war reconstruction, and the two-state solution is the fundamental path forward. “The international community should support the parties concerned in implementing the three-step approach with a serious attitude,” he concluded.
China’s proactive stance and detailed plan signal its ongoing commitment to facilitating peace and stability in the Middle East, aiming to foster a sustainable resolution to the long-standing Palestinian issue.
