200 Players from 28 Countries to Compete in 24th Dubai Open Chess Tournament
Dubai, The Gulf Observer: A total of 200 players representing 28 countries will vie for top honours at the 24th edition of the Dubai Open Chess Tournament. The prestigious event, hosted by the Dubai Chess and Culture Club, will take place from May 25 to June 2, 2024.
The details of the tournament were revealed today during a press conference at the Dubai Chess and Culture Club. Najib Mohammed Saleh, Deputy Chairman of the Dubai Chess and Culture Club, Othman Musa, the tournament director, and Mohammed Al Husseini, Executive Director of the Club, convened the event. Saleh emphasized that the tournament is one of the largest and most renowned international chess tournaments, serving as a pivotal point in the careers of many chess legends, including world champion Magnus Carlsen.
This year’s tournament is set to attract the world’s top chess grandmasters, including Teymur Radjabov from Azerbaijan, Raunak Sadhwani from India, and Lu Miaoyi, the Chinese Woman Grandmaster. Saeed Ishaq, the International Chess Federation Master, will lead the UAE team in the competition. The Dubai Open Chess Tournament, first held in 1999 to provide exposure to the UAE’s young talent, has grown into one of the most recognized and strongest open tournaments globally, boasting a prize fund of USD 52,000.
