Mass Casualties as Israeli Airstrike Targets School in Gaza City

Gaza City, The Gulf Observer: At least 100 Palestinians have been killed and dozens more wounded following an Israeli airstrike on a school in Gaza City, according to the Palestinian news agency WAFA. The attack occurred early Saturday morning as displaced Palestinians were gathered for dawn prayers at the Al-Taba’een school in the Al-Daraj neighborhood of eastern Gaza City.

WAFA reported that the Israeli military launched three missiles at the school, flattening the building and causing widespread devastation. Local civil defense officials are still working to locate all the victims trapped under the rubble.

“The occupation warplanes bombed the school while civilians were performing the Fajr prayer,” WAFA stated.

This attack is part of a broader Israeli military campaign that has left much of Gaza in ruins, exacerbating an already dire humanitarian situation. The destruction has resulted in severe shortages of essential resources, including water, food, medicine, and electricity, contributing to the rapid spread of diseases.

The ongoing conflict has claimed the lives of nearly 40,000 Palestinians, the majority of whom are women and children, and has left over 92,000 others wounded. Thousands more have died under the debris of bombed homes, and around 10,000 Palestinians have reportedly been abducted by Israeli forces.

Despite these devastating figures, a group of 45 American physicians, surgeons, and nurses volunteering in Gaza since last October believe the actual death toll could be far higher. In a study published in the medical journal Lancet, they warn that the cumulative impact of Israel’s war on Gaza could mean the true death toll exceeds 186,000 people.

The situation in Gaza continues to deteriorate as the conflict rages on, with no end in sight to the suffering of the Palestinian people.
