President Xi Holds Talks with Republic of Congo President Denis Sassou Nguesso
Beijing, The Gulf Observer: On Friday, Chinese President Xi Jinping met with President Denis Sassou Nguesso of the Republic of Congo in Beijing, coinciding with the 2024 Summit of the Forum on China-Africa Cooperation (FOCAC) and President Nguesso’s state visit to China.
During the talks, President Xi congratulated the Republic of Congo on assuming the role of African co-chair of FOCAC, emphasizing the significant benefits the summit’s outcomes will bring to all African nations with diplomatic ties to China. He highlighted that these results will elevate China-Africa cooperation to unprecedented levels and serve as a roadmap for the modernization efforts of both sides.
President Xi affirmed China’s commitment to working closely with the Republic of Congo to effectively lead FOCAC as co-chairs, demonstrating the strong resolve of China and African nations to jointly build an “all-weather” community with a shared future in the new era.
Marking the 60th anniversary of diplomatic relations between China and the Republic of Congo, President Xi called for both nations to deepen their traditional friendship and set a model for China-Africa relations. He also expressed appreciation for the Republic of Congo’s steadfast support on issues related to China’s core interests.
In economic cooperation, Xi reaffirmed China’s support for the Republic of Congo’s efforts to diversify its economy and encouraged greater Chinese participation in key infrastructure and regional connectivity projects. He also stressed China’s readiness to enhance collaboration in global governance and other international affairs with the Republic of Congo.
President Sassou Nguesso praised the significant contributions of Chinese companies in sectors such as fisheries and infrastructure, noting their positive impact on the Republic of Congo’s economic and social development. He expressed gratitude for China’s continued support for Africa’s development and confirmed the Republic of Congo’s commitment to working with China to implement the outcomes of the FOCAC summit.
Following their talks, the two leaders witnessed the signing of bilateral agreements in various fields, including Belt and Road cooperation, the digital economy, human resources, and news media. A joint statement was also issued.
Earlier, a welcoming ceremony for President Sassou Nguesso was held at the Great Hall of the People.
