Ramallah, The Gulf Observer: A bus carrying a group of Palestinian prisoners who were recently released from Israeli prisons arrived in the occupied West Bank city of Ramallah, marking a significant moment in the Gaza ceasefire agreement. The release of these prisoners is part of the first phase of a ceasefire and prisoner exchange deal that took effect on January 19.
According to Anadolu Agency, the bus, which was provided by the Red Cross, carried 42 prisoners. They were warmly greeted by a cheering crowd that had gathered since early morning to welcome the freed detainees. The release took place from the Ofer military prison near Ramallah.
This event is part of a broader agreement, which also stipulates that Israel will release 183 Palestinian prisoners on Saturday in exchange for three Israeli captives released by Hamas earlier in the day. To date, 16 Israeli captives and five Thai workers have been freed under the ceasefire arrangement in return for the release of hundreds of Palestinian prisoners.
The ongoing exchange reflects a crucial aspect of the ceasefire agreement, which aims to ease tensions and pave the way for further negotiations in the region.
