Arkadag, The Gulf Observer: The State Committee for the Construction of Arkadag City under the President of Turkmenistan and the Asian Development Bank (ADB) signed a Memorandum of Understanding (MoU) on Saturday in Arkadag City, marking a significant step in bolstering cooperation in energy, water resources, and urban development through digital innovation and environmentally friendly technologies.
The signing ceremony was attended by the National Leader of the Turkmen people and Chairman of the Halk Maslahaty, Gurbanguly Berdimuhamedov, along with Arthur Andrysiak, Head of ADB’s Resident Mission in Turkmenistan, as reported by official state media.
The MoU outlines a framework for collaboration in implementing energy- and water-efficient solutions, promoting renewable energy development, and advancing resource reuse technologies. It also emphasizes the exchange of technical expertise in the planning and execution of infrastructure projects.
During the event, Chairman Berdimuhamedov underscored the significance of the 2024–2028 Country Partnership Strategy between ADB and Turkmenistan. The strategy prioritizes the transition to a green economy, enhancement of competitiveness through economic diversification and human capital development, and the support of structural reforms to foster long-term sustainability.
Berdimuhamedov expressed his confidence that the MoU would form a robust basis for future joint initiatives centered on sustainable development and advanced technologies. He further highlighted ongoing plans to establish a nursing education center in Arkadag City, supported by the Gurbanguly Berdimuhamedov Charitable Foundation, as part of efforts to strengthen the city’s social infrastructure.
ADB’s Arthur Andrysiak welcomed the deepening of ties between the bank and Turkmenistan, particularly in the context of innovative projects like Arkadag City. He noted the 25th anniversary of ADB-Turkmenistan cooperation and suggested the organization of a commemorative event to mark the occasion.
Turkmenistan’s longstanding partnership with the ADB includes key projects in the energy and railway sectors, alongside technical assistance totaling over $12 million. Chairman Berdimuhamedov reaffirmed the country’s commitment to expanding collaboration, noting that ADB-supported transport infrastructure initiatives play a pivotal role in boosting economic development, generating employment, and revitalizing trade routes along the historic Great Silk Road.
