Pakistan, Cuba Discuss Cooperation in Telecommunications and Information Technology
Islamabad, The Gulf Observer: A delegation from Pakistan’s Ministry of Information Technology and Telecommunication (MoITT) held discussions with Cuban Ambassador Damián Cordero at the Embassy of Cuba in Islamabad, focusing on cooperation in telecommunications and information technology.
The Pakistani delegation was led by Dr. Muhammad Amir Malik, in charge of International Coordination, and included Ms. Maryam Shafiq, Director of International Strategic Partnerships, and Mr. Syed Waqas, responsible for matters concerning the International Telecommunication Union (ITU) and the United Nations.
During the meeting, the two sides exchanged views on the ministry’s multilateral engagement with other countries in the fields of telecommunications and information technology, as well as opportunities to strengthen cooperation through international and multilateral platforms.
Ambassador Damián Cordero welcomed the briefing provided by the Pakistani delegation and expressed appreciation for the positive and longstanding relations between Pakistan and Cuba, both bilaterally and within multilateral forums dealing with telecommunications and information technology.
The Cuban Ambassador also briefed the delegation on the challenges facing Cuba’s Ministry of Communications, highlighting what he described as the serious impact of the intensified U.S. economic and financial restrictions on the country.
According to the Ambassador, the measures have had adverse consequences for Cuba’s communications sector and have affected the daily lives of the country’s population.
The meeting underscored the importance of continued dialogue and engagement between Pakistan and Cuba in the areas of information technology, telecommunications and multilateral cooperation.
