Azerbaijan Reaffirms Its Territory Will Not Be Used by Any Foreign State Against a Third Party

Baku, The Gulf Observer: On June 14, the Minister of Foreign Affairs of the Republic of Azerbaijan, Jeyhun Bayramov, held a telephone conversation with his Iranian counterpart, Seyyed Abbas Araghchi, Minister of Foreign Affairs of the Islamic Republic of Iran, to discuss escalating tensions following Israel’s recent military operation targeting Iranian territory.

According to the Press Service Department of Azerbaijan’s Ministry of Foreign Affairs, Minister Araghchi provided a detailed account of the Israeli attack and outlined the responsive measures undertaken by Iran.

Minister Bayramov expressed deep concern over the deteriorating regional security situation and conveyed his condolences over the loss of Iranian military officials, including the Chief of the General Staff of Iran’s Armed Forces, as well as other officials and civilians.

Highlighting the alarming situation surrounding nuclear facilities, Minister Bayramov emphasized the urgent need to address rising tensions through diplomacy and dialogue, in accordance with international law and the fundamental norms and principles of global conduct.

He reaffirmed Azerbaijan’s position of neutrality in the conflict and clearly stated that the territory of Azerbaijan will not be used by any country to launch actions against third parties, including neighboring and friendly Iran.

Amid Iran’s decision to close its airspace, Minister Bayramov noted that Azerbaijan has facilitated land border crossings for representatives of Iran and various other nations, underscoring the country’s commitment to humanitarian and diplomatic cooperation.

In light of concerns regarding the possible spillover of the conflict into a broader regional confrontation, both sides reiterated the importance of reviving diplomatic channels and initiatives aimed at preserving peace and stability.

The ministers also exchanged views on other issues of mutual interest during the conversation.
