Min Aung Hlaing Inspects Key Industrial Facilities in Yangon Region, Emphasizes Boosting Local Production

Yangon, The Gulf Observer: Chairman of the State Administration Council and Prime Minister, Senior General Min Aung Hlaing, conducted a comprehensive inspection tour of major industrial facilities in the Yangon Region on Sunday. He was accompanied by Council Joint Secretary General Ye Win Oo, the Yangon Region Chief Minister, the Commander of Yangon Command, and other senior officials.
The inspection covered the Solar Panel Factory operated by Shwe Katha Company Limited, Tyre Factory (Ywama), No. 3 Steel Mill (Ywama), and No. 2 Steel Mill (Myaungtaga). During the visit, the Senior General was briefed by Union Minister for Industry Dr. Charlie Than and relevant factory managers on current operations, production capacities, and strategic plans for local industrial development.
At the Solar Panel Factory, the Senior General emphasized the importance of producing high-quality, domestically-manufactured solar panels that can compete with imported products. He called for increased efforts to source essential raw materials, including silicon, within the country to reduce import dependency. Highlighting the need for sustainable energy, he stated:
“Businesspeople must be encouraged with incentives to invest in generating electricity through solar power. This will help reduce production costs and support both household and industrial energy needs.”
Inspecting the Tyre Factory (Ywama), which manufactures tyres and tubes for motorcycles and tri-wheeled cycles, the Senior General directed factory management to scale up production to meet local demand and ensure product quality. He urged the factory to explore market expansion strategies and maintain consistency in supply for the domestic market.
At No. 3 Steel Mill (Ywama), operated by the Myanmar Economic Corporation (MEC), the Senior General reviewed the production of steel billets, bolts, nuts, and deformed bars. Stressing the strategic importance of the steel industry, he noted:
“It is necessary to produce high-quality steel products specifically for construction purposes to ensure strong and durable construction.”
He further inspected the comparative quality of domestic and foreign-made steel products, urging continuous quality control and machinery upgrades.
The visit concluded at No. 2 Steel Mill (Myaungtaga), where the Senior General observed the production of steel bridge frames, tower poles, and other structural components. He reiterated the critical national role of the steel industry and underscored the need to utilize domestic iron resources efficiently.
“As the steel production industry is an essential sector for the nation, the steel mill must systematically continue the production of tower poles and steel bridge frames,” he stated, highlighting the economic implications of steel imports.
Throughout the inspection, the Senior General provided guidance on enhancing production efficiency, strengthening local manufacturing capabilities, and ensuring national self-sufficiency in critical industrial sectors.
