Oman Condemns Israeli Aggression at UN Human Rights Council, Reaffirms Support for Palestine

Geneva, The Gulf Observer: The Sultanate of Oman took part in the 60th session of the Human Rights Council in Geneva, where discussions covered the annual reports of the UN High Commissioner for Human Rights and the Secretary-General, as well as updates from the independent international fact-finding mission in the occupied Palestinian territories.

Delivering Oman’s national statement, Ambassador Idris M. Abdulrahman Al Khanjari, Permanent Representative to the United Nations and other international organizations in Geneva, strongly condemned the brutal Israeli attack on the State of Qatar.

The statement described the assault as a flagrant act of aggression reflecting Israel’s persistent violations of international law and its disregard for the sovereignty of nations. It warned that such actions represent a dangerous escalation that threatens regional peace, security, and stability.

Oman stressed that Israeli practices, whether directed against sovereign states or the Palestinian people under occupation, highlight a clear renunciation of international obligations and underscore the urgent need for a unified international stance to uphold international law and curb the use of force.

The Sultanate praised the reports presented by the Office of the High Commissioner under Item 2, particularly those addressing the human rights situation in the occupied Palestinian territories. It expressed grave concern over the continued military escalation in Gaza, the severe humanitarian toll it has inflicted, and the unprecedented expansion of illegal settlements in the West Bank.

Oman emphasized that the systematic attacks on Palestinian land and property constitute a blatant violation of international law and relevant UN resolutions, obstructing any genuine efforts to reach a just and lasting settlement of the Palestinian issue. It further noted that recent Israeli political rhetoric denying Palestinians the right to establish an independent state reflects a dangerous trend aimed at entrenching annexation policies, posing a direct threat to peace.

The statement affirmed that double standards and continued selectivity in addressing such violations undermine the credibility of the international system and perpetuate impunity. It called for urgent international action to protect civilians, ensure accountability for violations, and take effective measures to safeguard the inalienable right of the Palestinian people to establish a fully sovereign and independent state.
