Turkmenistan to Host Next CIS Council of Heads of Government Meeting in 2026

Minsk, The Gulf Observer: The meeting of the Commonwealth of Independent States (CIS) Council of Heads of Government was held on September 29 in Minsk, with officials announcing that the next session will take place in the first half of 2026 in Ashgabat, Turkmenistan.

According to official Turkmen media reports released on Tuesday, this decision underscores Turkmenistan’s growing role as a key platform for political and economic dialogue in the region.

The Turkmen delegation was led by Deputy Chairman of the Cabinet of Ministers Hojamyrat Geldimyradov. The meeting’s agenda included 15 items, with special attention given to documents related to the digitalization strategy for multimodal transport corridors and the implementation plan for the second phase of the CIS Economic Development Strategy through 2030. These initiatives are expected to strengthen Turkmenistan’s transit potential and advance its digital economy.

Participants also approved the CIS Strategy for Scientific and Technological Development through 2035, a cooperation framework for the information society and digital economy, and agreements on construction standardization and coordinated measures against locust pests.

The decisions adopted at the meeting outlined the Commonwealth’s long-term priorities and reaffirmed Turkmenistan’s status as a vital partner actively contributing to shaping the region’s future.
