Azerbaijan-EU Relations Strengthened Through High-Level Parliamentary Dialogue

Azerbaijan

Baku, The Gulf Observer: Speaker of Azerbaijan’s Milli Majlis Sahiba Gafarova held a meeting with Marijana Kujundžić, Head of the European Union Delegation to Azerbaijan, to discuss the current state and future prospects of Azerbaijan–EU relations.

During the meeting, both sides welcomed the positive momentum observed in bilateral ties throughout 2025, marked by reciprocal visits and high-level engagements. They underscored the importance of recent discussions between President of Azerbaijan Ilham Aliyev and António Costa, President of the European Council, as well as Ursula von der Leyen, President of the European Commission, in advancing various aspects of the bilateral agenda.

Marijana Kujundžić congratulated Azerbaijan on the progress achieved in the peace process with Armenia, describing it as a historic milestone. She noted that these developments are significant not only for the South Caucasus region and Europe but also at the global level.

Speaker Sahiba Gafarova briefed the EU diplomat on the current state of the Azerbaijan–Armenia peace process and ongoing confidence-building measures between the two countries’ parliaments. She also raised concerns regarding the Strategic Agenda for the EU–Armenia Partnership, while highlighting the close cooperation between the Azerbaijani parliament and the legislatures of EU member states. In this context, she recalled her official visits and meetings with European counterparts.

Addressing resolutions adopted by the European Parliament against Azerbaijan, Gafarova stressed that the prevailing regional realities and tangible achievements in the peace process with Armenia demonstrate the biased nature of such resolutions.

The meeting also reviewed a wide range of issues related to Azerbaijan–EU cooperation, with particular emphasis on the importance of the energy partnership. The sides further explored opportunities to expand collaboration in transport, trade, and other sectors of mutual interest.
