President Ilham Aliyev Offers Condolences on Passing of Georgian Patriarch Ilia II

Baku, The Gulf Observer: President of the Republic of Azerbaijan, Ilham Aliyev, on March 27 visited the Georgian Embassy in Azerbaijan to express his heartfelt condolences on the passing of His Holiness Ilia II, Catholicos-Patriarch of All Georgia.

The Azerbaijani head of state was received at the embassy by Georgia’s Ambassador to Azerbaijan, Zurab Pataradze.

During the visit, President Ilham Aliyev signed the official book of condolences and held a conversation with the ambassador, conveying his sympathies to the people of Georgia on the profound loss.

President Aliyev paid tribute to Ilia II, noting that the revered spiritual leader had dedicated his life to noble causes and played a vital role in promoting interreligious dialogue and mutual understanding. He emphasized that Ilia II’s legacy would continue to be remembered with deep respect in Azerbaijan.

Highlighting his contributions beyond religious leadership, the president also underscored Ilia II’s significant role in strengthening the traditional friendship and cooperation between Azerbaijan and Georgia.

Ambassador Zurab Pataradze expressed sincere gratitude to President Ilham Aliyev for visiting the embassy and offering condolences, describing the gesture as a reflection of the strong ties and solidarity between the two nations.
