Turkmenistan Celebrates Akhal-Teke Horse Day with Festive Events in Ashgabat

Ashgabat, The Gulf Observer: President of Turkmenistan Serdar Berdimuhamedov on Saturday attended a series of festive events at the Akhal-Teke Equestrian Sports Complex in Ashgabat, marking the nationally celebrated Akhal-Teke Horse Day, according to the Watan Habarlary news program.

A key highlight of the occasion was the unveiling of a monument dedicated to the renowned Akhal-Teke horse Pyýada, a distinguished stallion recognized for its contribution to Turkmen horse breeding and its multiple victories in international beauty contests.

During his visit, the president reviewed a wide range of exhibition displays organized by Arkadag, Ashgabat, and various regions of the country. The exhibitions showcased artistic and cultural works, including paintings, sculptures, carpets, and jewelry inspired by Akhal-Teke horses, as well as traditional horse equipment and photographic collections reflecting the rich heritage of Turkmen equestrian culture.

As part of the celebrations, ceremonial presentations of horses were made to President Berdimuhamedov on behalf of labor collectives from Arkadag and Ashgabat, regional representatives, as well as members of the military, law enforcement agencies, and prominent horse breeders across the country.

The event also featured the final stage of the annual international beauty contest among Akhal-Teke horses, a prestigious competition highlighting the elegance and pedigree of the breed.

At the conclusion of the festivities, winners of the international beauty contest, along with laureates of a parallel creative competition, were awarded valuable prizes and cash rewards in recognition of their achievements.

Akhal-Teke Horse Day is one of Turkmenistan’s most important cultural celebrations, honoring the historic and symbolic significance of the Akhal-Teke breed, widely regarded as a national treasure.
