Turkmenistan Highlights Active Foreign Policy Engagements and Neutrality at High-Level Briefing

Ashgabat, The Gulf Observer: On April 28, 2026, Turkmenistan’s Minister of Foreign Affairs Rashid Meredov held a comprehensive briefing outlining the most significant developments in the country’s international engagement since the beginning of the year.
The briefing was attended by heads of diplomatic missions accredited in Turkmenistan, as well as representatives of international organizations based in Ashgabat. Addressing the participants, the Foreign Minister provided an overview of Turkmenistan’s foreign policy priorities, implemented in line with the Foreign Policy Concept of Neutral Turkmenistan for 2022–2028.
Meredov emphasized the growing importance of high-level diplomatic visits, particularly those undertaken by the President of Turkmenistan Serdar Berdimuhamedov and the National Leader of the Turkmen People, Chairman of the Halk Maslahaty, Gurbanguly Berdimuhamedov. He highlighted the outcomes of the National Leader’s visits to the United States, the China, and Austria.
According to the Foreign Minister, the visit to the United States contributed to expanding bilateral cooperation in trade, economic, and cultural-humanitarian sectors. Meanwhile, discussions held in China, including talks with President Xi Jinping, resulted in tangible steps to further strengthen cooperation, particularly in the energy and gas sectors.
Meredov also underscored the significance of the visit to Austria, where the National Leader engaged with top leadership and heads of major United Nations agencies. He noted that key initiatives were presented during the International Vienna Energy and Climate Forum, reflecting Turkmenistan’s proactive approach to global energy and environmental challenges.
The Foreign Minister further highlighted Turkmenistan’s active participation in major international forums, including the World Government Summit in Dubai and the Antalya Diplomacy Forum in Antalya. He also referenced the country’s engagement in environmental diplomacy, particularly during regional summits in Kazakhstan, where President Serdar Berdimuhamedov reiterated Turkmenistan’s commitment to addressing water management and ecological sustainability.
The briefing reaffirmed Turkmenistan’s steadfast adherence to its long-standing principles of neutrality, peaceful coexistence, good neighborliness, and mutually beneficial international cooperation.
Ambassadors and representatives of international organizations attending the session also shared their perspectives, acknowledging Turkmenistan’s constructive role in fostering regional and global dialogue.
