International Runners Shine at Baku Marathon 2026 as Winners Announced

Baku, The Gulf Observer: The winners of the Baku Marathon 2026, organized at the initiative of the Heydar Aliyev Foundation, have been officially announced following a vibrant and competitive race that drew thousands of participants from around the world.

In the men’s category, Ahmet Alkanoğlu of Türkiye claimed the top position, becoming the first athlete to cross the finish line. He was followed by Vitaliy Shafar of Ukraine in second place, while Yrskeldi Akerov of Kyrgyzstan secured third.

In the women’s competition, Elena Tolstykh from Russia emerged victorious, clinching first place. Azerbaijan’s Anna Yusupova delivered an impressive performance to finish second, while Shirin Akimbay of Kazakhstan secured third place.

The 9th edition of the marathon brought together approximately 25,000 participants representing a diverse range of countries, including Azerbaijan, the United States, China, Germany, the United Kingdom, Georgia, Kazakhstan, Kyrgyzstan, Uzbekistan, Russia, Türkiye, and Ukraine.

Held under the slogan “Win the Wind,” the marathon highlighted international sportsmanship and unity, further cementing Baku’s growing reputation as a hub for major global sporting events.
