Turkmen President Extends Republic Day Greetings to Italian President Mattarella

Ashgabat, The Gulf Observer: President of Turkmenistan Serdar Berdimuhamedov has extended congratulations to President of the Italian Republic Sergio Mattarella on the occasion of Italy’s National Day — Republic Day, which this year marks the 80th anniversary of the historic referendum that led to the establishment of the Italian Republic, according to Turkmen state media.
In his congratulatory message, President Berdimuhamedov conveyed best wishes to President Mattarella for good health, happiness, and continued success in his official responsibilities. He also expressed wishes for peace, prosperity, and well-being for the people of Italy.
To mark the anniversary, a series of cultural events are being held in Ashgabat. The Embassy of Italy in Turkmenistan has organized a celebratory concert titled “Festa della Musica,” scheduled for June 3 at the Magtymguly National Music and Drama Theater. The event will feature Italian soprano Zoe Papas alongside the State Symphony Orchestra of Turkmenistan, conducted by its artistic director and chief conductor Resul Gylyjov. In addition, Zoe Papas conducted a masterclass at the Maya Kulyyeva Turkmen National Conservatory, highlighting cultural and artistic exchange between the two countries.
According to official information from the Senate of the Italian Republic, Republic Day commemorates the nationwide referendum held on June 2, 1946, in which Italian citizens voted in favour of establishing a republic, leading to the abolition of the monarchy. The constitutional process began later that year, culminating in the entry into force of Italy’s Constitution on January 1, 1948.
Republic Day remains one of Italy’s most significant national holidays, symbolizing the country’s democratic foundations and republican system of governance.
