Turkmenistan, Austria Review Economic Cooperation Ahead of Joint Commission Session

Ashgabat, The Gulf Observer: Deputy Minister of Foreign Affairs of Turkmenistan Myahri Bashimova held a meeting with Ambassador of the Republic of Austria to Turkmenistan Thomas Schuller-Götzburg and Elisabeth Weissenböck, Director of the Directorate for International Economic Relations at Austria’s Federal Ministry of Economy, Energy and Tourism, to discuss bilateral cooperation and preparations for the upcoming session of the Joint Turkmen-Austrian Commission on Trade and Economic Cooperation.
During the meeting, the Turkmen side congratulated Elisabeth Weissenböck on her appointment as Co-Chair of the Austrian section of the Joint Commission. The 13th session of the commission is scheduled to be held in Ashgabat on June 12.
The participants noted the high level of cooperation between Turkmenistan and Austria within international organizations, particularly the United Nations and the Organization for Security and Co-operation in Europe (OSCE), and reaffirmed their commitment to strengthening coordination on issues of mutual interest.
The two sides also highlighted the significance of the visit of the National Leader of the Turkmen people and Chairman of the Halk Maslahaty of Turkmenistan, Gurbanguly Berdimuhamedov, to Austria, describing it as an important milestone that provided fresh momentum to the development of bilateral relations.
Discussions focused on ways to increase bilateral trade and expand economic cooperation, including opportunities within the framework of the European Union’s Global Gateway initiative. Both sides emphasized the important role of the Joint Turkmen-Austrian Commission in advancing trade, investment and broader economic engagement.
The meeting further underscored the importance of enhancing collaboration between universities and academic institutions of the two countries to promote educational, scientific and research exchanges.
The talks reflected the shared commitment of Turkmenistan and Austria to deepening their partnership and expanding cooperation across economic, diplomatic, educational and international platforms.
