Azerbaijan Economic Council Reviews Alat Free Economic Zone Development

Baku, The Gulf Observer: Prime Minister Ali Asadov chaired a meeting of Azerbaijan’s Economic Council on Thursday to review the development of the Alat Free Economic Zone (AFEZ), discuss key infrastructure issues, and examine the role of the service sector in supporting the country’s economic growth.

According to official information, the meeting focused on work undertaken to organize and enhance the activities of the Alat Free Economic Zone, its strategic outlook, future prospects, and measures aimed at strengthening its contribution to Azerbaijan’s economy. Participants also discussed priority areas, policy proposals, and other current economic matters.

Reports on the agenda items were presented by Shahmar Movsumov, Assistant to the President of Azerbaijan and Head of the Department of Economic Issues and Innovative Development Policy of the Presidential Administration, and Economy Minister Mikayil Jabbarov.

Members of the Economic Council, together with Valeh Alasgarov, Chairman of the Management Board of the Alat Free Economic Zone, held extensive discussions on issues related to infrastructure development, investment opportunities, and the expansion of economic activities within the zone.

The meeting also examined the growing importance of the service sector as a driver of sustainable economic growth and diversification, with participants exploring measures to further enhance its contribution to the national economy.

At the conclusion of the meeting, the Economic Council adopted decisions aimed at supporting the development of Azerbaijan’s tourism sector. Relevant instructions were issued to the responsible government bodies to implement the agreed measures and advance tourism-related initiatives across the country.
