Gurbanguly Berdimuhamedov Holds High-Level Talks in Iran, Reaffirms Commitment to Stronger Bilateral Ties

Tehran, The Gulf Observer: The National Leader of the Turkmen people and Chairman of the Halk Maslahaty of Turkmenistan, Gurbanguly Berdimuhamedov, paid an official visit to the Islamic Republic of Iran on July 3, during which he held high-level meetings with Iranian President Masoud Pezeshkian and Speaker of the Islamic Consultative Assembly Mohammad Bagher Ghalibaf to discuss the further expansion of bilateral cooperation and regional engagement.

Upon his arrival at Tehran’s Mehrabad International Airport, Berdimuhamedov was warmly received by Iran’s First Vice President Mohammad Reza Aref and other senior officials before proceeding to the Servestan Palace at the Saadabad Complex for talks with President Pezeshkian.

Welcoming the distinguished Turkmen leader, President Pezeshkian reaffirmed Iran’s commitment to strengthening multifaceted cooperation with neighbouring Turkmenistan and expressed confidence that the visit would provide fresh momentum to the longstanding partnership between the two countries.

Berdimuhamedov thanked the Iranian leadership for the warm hospitality and expressed satisfaction over the high level of bilateral relations founded on the principles of good neighbourliness, mutual respect and constructive cooperation. He also conveyed warm greetings and best wishes from Turkmen President Serdar Berdimuhamedov to President Pezeshkian.

The Iranian President reciprocated the greetings and underscored the dynamic and multifaceted nature of the two countries’ longstanding partnership. Both leaders agreed that the meeting would further reinforce Turkmen-Iranian cooperation across a broad range of sectors.

At the conclusion of the talks, Berdimuhamedov and President Pezeshkian reaffirmed their shared commitment to expanding friendly and fraternal relations and pledged to continue joint efforts aimed at promoting the mutual interests and prosperity of the peoples of Turkmenistan and Iran.

During the visit, Berdimuhamedov also met with Speaker of the Islamic Consultative Assembly Mohammad Bagher Ghalibaf. The two sides emphasized the growing importance of parliamentary diplomacy in strengthening bilateral relations and agreed to enhance cooperation between legislators through more active interparliamentary friendship groups, regular exchanges of experience and closer institutional contacts.

The discussions also highlighted the significance of organizing joint cultural initiatives to preserve and promote the rich historical and cultural heritage shared by the Turkmen and Iranian peoples. Both sides reaffirmed their commitment to advancing cooperation on the basis of mutual respect, equality and good neighbourliness.

As part of his visit, Berdimuhamedov gave an interview to the Islamic Republic of Iran Broadcasting Corporation (IRIB), responding to questions from journalist Seyyed Mohsen Hosseini at the request of the Iranian side.

The Turkmen leader later visited the Mosalla Imam Khomeini Mosque in Tehran to attend the farewell ceremony for the late Leader of the Islamic Republic of Iran, Ayatollah Seyyed Ali Khamenei.

Welcomed by First Vice President Mohammad Reza Aref and other senior officials, Berdimuhamedov paid tribute to the late Iranian leader, offered prayers for the repose of his soul and expressed heartfelt condolences on behalf of President Serdar Berdimuhamedov, himself and the people of Turkmenistan to President Masoud Pezeshkian and the Iranian leadership.

He also signed the official book of condolences before concluding his visit.

Following the completion of the official programme, Berdimuhamedov departed Tehran from Mehrabad International Airport, where he was seen off by First Vice President Mohammad Reza Aref and other Iranian officials.
