Etihad Rail Passenger Service Set to Boost UAE Tourism and Economic Growth

Abu Dhabi, The Gulf Observer: The launch of the UAE’s long-awaited Etihad Rail passenger service is expected to significantly strengthen the country’s tourism sector by improving connectivity between emirates, making key attractions more accessible, and supporting sustainable economic development, according to a report.
The passenger rail network, which recently commenced operations between Abu Dhabi and Fujairah, is being hailed as a transformative national infrastructure project that will reshape domestic travel while opening new opportunities for the tourism, hospitality, and retail sectors. The service reduces travel time between Abu Dhabi and Fujairah to approximately 105 minutes, offering residents and visitors a fast, comfortable, and environmentally friendly alternative to road transport.
Industry experts believe the improved accessibility will encourage more domestic tourism, particularly to the UAE’s eastern coast, renowned for its beaches, mountains, heritage sites, and adventure tourism. Easier access is also expected to increase visitor numbers to hotels, resorts, restaurants, and cultural attractions across the emirates, while stimulating investment in tourism-related infrastructure.
The report noted that the railway project forms part of the UAE’s broader vision to build an integrated and sustainable transport network that enhances mobility, reduces road congestion, and supports the country’s long-term economic diversification goals. By connecting major cities and tourist destinations, the passenger service is expected to strengthen inter-emirate travel and contribute to balanced regional development.
Etihad Rail’s passenger network will eventually connect 11 cities and regions across the UAE through a phased rollout, providing seamless travel options for millions of passengers annually. The project is also expected to reinforce the UAE’s position as a leading global destination for tourism, trade, logistics, and investment while advancing the country’s commitment to sustainable transport solutions.
