Oman, European Union Sign Agreement to Establish EU Diplomatic Mission in Muscat
Muscat, The Gulf Observer: The Sultanate of Oman and the European Union (EU) on Tuesday signed an agreement to establish a diplomatic mission of the European Union in Oman, marking a significant milestone in the growing partnership between the two sides.
The agreement was signed by Oman’s Foreign Minister, Sayyid Badr bin Hamad Al Busaidi, and Kaja Kallas, High Representative of the European Union for Foreign Affairs and Security Policy and Vice-President of the European Commission.
The new EU diplomatic mission in Muscat, together with Oman’s accredited mission to the European Union in Brussels, will provide an institutional framework for advancing shared interests and enhancing cooperation, with the aim of promoting prosperity and well-being for both parties.
According to the two sides, the establishment of the mission reflects the deepening strategic partnership between Oman and the European Union and demonstrates their commitment to expanding collaboration across a broad range of sectors. These include technology, energy, logistics, banking, minerals, infrastructure, training and capacity-building, food and water security, energy security, and maritime security.
The agreement also underscores the shared commitment of Oman and the European Union to multilateralism and their joint efforts to promote regional and international peace, security, and sustainable development. Officials noted that the EU’s permanent diplomatic presence in Muscat would strengthen coordination on addressing regional challenges and contribute more effectively to initiatives supporting peace and stability.
Speaking on the occasion, Foreign Minister Sayyid Badr bin Hamad Al Busaidi expressed confidence that the establishment of the EU mission in Muscat would deliver tangible benefits for governments, businesses, and citizens of both Oman and the European Union. He said the mission would help unlock the full potential of the bilateral partnership and further expand cooperation in areas of mutual interest.
Kaja Kallas welcomed the signing of the agreement, describing it as a landmark achievement in Oman-EU relations. She said the establishment of the diplomatic mission would have a positive impact on strengthening ties and enhancing cooperation between the two sides.
During the signing ceremony, Omani and EU officials reviewed the progress achieved in bilateral relations, reaffirmed their commitment to continued constructive engagement, and pledged to deepen political dialogue and broaden cooperation in ways that advance shared interests and deliver mutual benefits.
