PM Shehbaz Reaffirms Commitment to Regional Peace in Meeting with Iranian Minister
Islamabad, The Gulf Observer: Prime Minister Muhammad Shehbaz Sharif on Tuesday reaffirmed Pakistan’s unwavering commitment to regional peace and stability, emphasizing that the country would continue to play the role of an honest and sincere mediator and facilitator in efforts aimed at promoting dialogue and de-escalation.
The remarks came during a meeting with Iran’s Interior Minister, Eskandar Momeni, who is on an official visit to Pakistan and called on the Prime Minister at the Prime Minister House, according to an official statement issued by the Prime Minister’s Office.
During the meeting, Prime Minister Shehbaz Sharif expressed deep concern over the recent escalation in the Gulf region and urged all parties to exercise maximum restraint and avoid actions that could further destabilize the region.
Welcoming the Iranian Interior Minister and his delegation, the Prime Minister recalled his visit to Tehran earlier this month to attend the funeral ceremony of the late Supreme Leader Ayatollah Sayyid Ali Khamenei. He conveyed his respectful regards and best wishes to Supreme Leader Sayyid Mojtaba Hosseini Khamenei and Iranian President Dr. Masoud Pezeshkian.
Interior Minister Eskandar Momeni thanked Prime Minister Shehbaz Sharif for the warm hospitality extended to him and his delegation, and conveyed greetings and best wishes from the Iranian leadership. He said he was leading a high-level delegation to Islamabad with the objective of further strengthening bilateral cooperation between the two neighboring countries.
The Iranian minister expressed appreciation for the mediation efforts of Prime Minister Shehbaz Sharif, Deputy Prime Minister and Foreign Minister Senator Mohammad Ishaq Dar, and Field Marshal Syed Asim Munir, which he said had contributed to the successful conclusion of the Islamabad Memorandum of Understanding. He also thanked the Prime Minister for attending the funeral ceremony of the late Iranian Supreme Leader in Tehran.
The meeting reviewed the positive trajectory of Pakistan-Iran relations and reaffirmed the mutual commitment of both countries to enhancing cooperation in areas of shared interest while working together to promote regional peace, stability, and constructive engagement.
Deputy Prime Minister and Foreign Minister Senator Mohammad Ishaq Dar, Interior and Narcotics Control Minister Syed Mohsin Raza Naqvi, Information Minister Attaullah Tarar, Adviser to the Prime Minister Dr. Syed Tauqir Shah, Minister of State for Interior Talal Chaudhry, and other senior government officials also attended the meeting.
