Indonesia, Thailand Deepen Strategic Partnership to Strengthen ASEAN Stability
Jakarta, The Gulf Observer: Indonesia and Thailand have agreed to deepen their strategic partnership and expand bilateral cooperation to reinforce peace, stability, and prosperity across Southeast Asia, reaffirming their shared commitment to strengthening the Association of Southeast Asian Nations (ASEAN) amid growing global uncertainty.
The agreement was reached during bilateral talks between Indonesian President Prabowo Subianto and Thai Prime Minister Anutin Charnvirakul in Jakarta. The meeting marked the second leaders’ consultation since Indonesia and Thailand elevated their bilateral ties to a strategic partnership last year, reflecting the growing depth and future-oriented nature of their relationship.
President Prabowo described the visit as strategically significant, noting that Indonesia and Thailand are founding members of ASEAN and among the region’s largest economies, giving their partnership an important role in shaping developments across Southeast Asia. Both leaders reaffirmed their commitment to maintaining regional peace, security, and economic prosperity through closer cooperation on bilateral, regional, and global issues.
The two sides agreed to prioritize practical collaboration that delivers tangible benefits to their citizens while enhancing ASEAN’s resilience and centrality. They also pledged to work together in addressing shared regional challenges and promoting sustainable development through their strategic partnership.
The leaders further reiterated their support for ASEAN’s collective efforts to address regional security issues, including the implementation of the Five-Point Consensus on Myanmar, emphasizing the importance of dialogue, humanitarian assistance, and regional cooperation in preserving long-term stability.
