Pakistan Seeks Stronger Trade Links with Azerbaijan, Central Asia Through Strategic Corridors

Baku, The Gulf Observer: Pakistan’s Ambassador to Azerbaijan Qasim Mohiuddin has highlighted the potential of enhanced road and rail connectivity to strengthen trade links between Pakistan, Azerbaijan, Central Asia, the South Caucasus and European markets.

In an interview with AZERTAC, the ambassador said improved and efficient connectivity, particularly along the North-South corridor, could prove transformative for countries across the region.

He noted that Pakistan’s Gwadar and Karachi seaports, supported by established infrastructure, could serve as natural gateways for Central Asian and South Caucasus countries to international markets.

Mohiuddin also emphasised the importance of Azerbaijan’s strategic geographical position as a key hub connecting Asia with Europe through the North-South and Middle Corridors.

According to the ambassador, Gwadar could additionally become a major hub for transporting goods from Azerbaijan and Central Asia to international markets, further strengthening regional trade and economic integration.

He said Pakistani logistics companies had already conducted feasibility studies and trial operations to assess the viability of various transportation routes.

The ambassador expressed hope that cooperation and investment in the logistics and transportation sector would gain further momentum as the security situation in the region improves.

He stressed that the objective extends beyond establishing transport links, saying the countries should work towards developing reliable, commercially viable and sustainable trade corridors.

Such corridors, he added, would enable Pakistan to connect more effectively with Azerbaijan, Central Asian states and European markets, creating new opportunities for regional trade, investment and economic cooperation.
