Pakistan, Kyrgyzstan Sign Multiple Agreements to Strengthen Bilateral Cooperation
Bishkek, The Gulf Observer: Pakistan and the Kyrgyz Republic on Wednesday signed a series of bilateral agreements and memoranda of understanding (MoUs) aimed at expanding cooperation in trade, security, education, health, environment, technology and other areas.
Prime Minister Muhammad Shehbaz Sharif and President of the Kyrgyz Republic Sadyr Zhaparov witnessed the signing ceremony, during which representatives of the two countries exchanged the pre-signed documents.
The two leaders also signed a joint statement outlining the outcomes of their discussions and the objectives of Prime Minister Shehbaz Sharif’s three-day visit to Kyrgyzstan, where he is attending the meeting of the Council of Heads of State of the Shanghai Cooperation Organisation.
Under the agreements, the two countries signed a Diplomatic Programme of Cooperation between their foreign ministries for 2026–2027. An MoU was also concluded between the Institute of Strategic Studies Islamabad and the National Institute for Strategic Initiatives of the Kyrgyz Republic to promote research collaboration.
Pakistan and Kyrgyzstan finalized agreements on transit trade to facilitate commercial movement between the two countries and strengthen cooperation in science and technology. They also signed a treaty on extradition, while the two governments formulated a draft agreement on mutual legal assistance in criminal matters.
The interior ministries of Pakistan and Kyrgyzstan signed an MoU to enhance cooperation against the illicit trafficking of narcotic drugs, psychotropic substances, precursor chemicals and related offences.
In the health sector, the Kyrgyz Ministry of Health and the Pakistan Medical and Dental Council signed an MoU to promote cooperation in medical education. Another MoU between the education ministries of the two countries seeks to strengthen bilateral cooperation in the field of education.
Environmental cooperation was also reinforced through an MoU signed between the Kyrgyz Ministry of Natural Resources, Ecology and Technical Supervision and Pakistan’s Ministry of Climate Change and Environmental Coordination, focusing on cooperation in environmental protection and climate change.
The National Defence University Pakistan and the National Institute for Strategic Initiatives of the Kyrgyz Republic signed an MoU covering academic research and joint activities.
Cooperation in emerging technologies was further expanded through an MoU between the National Agency for Virtual Assets and Blockchain Technologies under the President of Kyrgyzstan and Pakistan’s Virtual Assets Regulatory Authority.
The two sides also signed an agreement establishing a sister-city relationship between Lahore and Osh, aimed at promoting people-to-people contacts and cooperation between the two cities.
In the postal and e-commerce sector, OJSC Kyrgyz Post and Pakistan Post signed a bilateral agreement to develop mutually beneficial cooperation. Meanwhile, the Chamber of Commerce and Industry of the Kyrgyz Republic and the Federation of Pakistan Chambers of Commerce and Industry signed an agreement aimed at strengthening business relations and promoting bilateral trade.
The wide-ranging agreements reflect the commitment of Pakistan and Kyrgyzstan to deepen bilateral ties and broaden practical cooperation across economic, institutional, security, educational and technological fields.
