UAE Foreign Minister Holds Talks with Foreign Ministers on Sidelines of UN General Assembly

New York, The Gulf Observer: H.H. Sheikh Abdullah bin Zayed Al Nahyan, Deputy Prime Minister and Minister of Foreign Affairs of the United Arab Emirates, held separate meetings in New York with foreign ministers participating in the 81st session of the United Nations General Assembly.

Sheikh Abdullah met with H.R.H. Prince Abdul Mateen, Minister of Foreign Affairs of Brunei Darussalam; Iruthisham Adam, Minister of Foreign Affairs of the Maldives; and Shishir Khanal, Minister of Foreign Affairs of Nepal.

The meetings focused on strengthening bilateral relations and expanding cooperation in a range of areas, including the economy, trade, investment, culture, tourism, energy and artificial intelligence. The discussions emphasized advancing mutual interests and supporting development and prosperity.

The officials also reviewed several issues of common interest on the UN General Assembly agenda and exchanged views on the latest regional and international developments.

Sheikh Abdullah reaffirmed the UAE’s commitment to strengthening international partnerships and promoting constructive and productive cooperation in support of sustainable development, security, stability and economic prosperity.

The meetings also addressed preparations for the 2026 United Nations Water Conference, which the UAE will co-host with Senegal from December 8 to 10. The participants stressed the importance of enhanced international cooperation and coordinated efforts to address global water challenges and promote the sustainable management of water resources.

Separately, Sheikh Abdullah met with Tom Fletcher, UN Under-Secretary-General for Humanitarian Affairs and Emergency Relief Coordinator. Their discussions covered regional and international developments, opportunities to strengthen humanitarian cooperation and coordination, and the importance of supporting international efforts to enhance humanitarian response and mitigate the impact of crises.

The meetings were attended by Reem bint Ebrahim Al Hashimy, Minister of State for International Cooperation; Lana Nusseibeh, Minister of State; Saeed Al Hajeri, Minister of State; and Ambassador Mohamed Abushahab, Permanent Representative of the UAE to the United Nations.
