King Abdullah II Reviews Jordan’s Gas Sector Plans, Energy Security Strategy

Amman, The Gulf Observer: His Majesty King Abdullah II on Tuesday chaired a meeting to review the government’s progress in the gas sector and strategic plans aimed at strengthening Jordan’s energy security and enhancing national economic competitiveness.

The meeting, held at Al Husseiniya Palace and attended by Chairman of the National Policies Council HRH Prince Feisal and Prime Minister Jafar Hassan, focused on efforts to develop the country’s gas resources and meet growing energy requirements.

According to a Royal Court statement, King Abdullah was briefed on the implementation of plans to expand production at the Risha Gas Field and connect it to the Arab Gas Pipeline. The initiative is aimed at increasing gas supplies and supporting Jordan’s growing energy needs.

Minister of Energy and Mineral Resources Saleh Kharabsheh also briefed the King on plans for the gas sector under Jordan’s comprehensive energy strategy, developments in the domestic gas market, gas import and export plans, and the Amman-Zarqa Gas Distribution Network Project.

The distribution network project seeks to expand the use of natural gas within Jordan and support greater domestic utilization of the resource.

The meeting was attended by Director of the Office of His Majesty Alaa Batayneh, Deputy Prime Minister and Minister of State for Economic Affairs Muhannad Shehadeh, Minister of Investment Tareq Abu Ghazaleh and several other government officials.
