Baku, The Gulf Observer: Azerbaijani President Ilham Aliyev has highlighted significant progress in the reconstruction and development of Garabagh and East Zangezur, emphasizing the role of modern transport, energy and water infrastructure in connecting residential settlements and integrating the regions into the country’s unified economic space.

In a message to participants of the 6th Azerbaijan International Restoration, Reconstruction and Development of Garabagh Exhibition, “Rebuild Garabagh,” President Aliyev said that transport infrastructure development was strengthening regional connectivity and supporting economic integration.

He noted that nearly 1,500 kilometres of roads had been constructed in the regions, while the 11.7-kilometre Murovdag Tunnel represented a major engineering achievement in challenging mountainous terrain.

The president also highlighted the commissioning of international airports in Fuzuli, Zangilan and Lachin, describing transport connectivity as a key component of the region’s ongoing development. Railway construction is continuing, while the Horadiz–Aghband railway, an essential component of the Zangezur Corridor, holds strategic importance for expanding Azerbaijan’s international transport and logistics links.

Alongside transport projects, Azerbaijan is developing energy and water supply infrastructure to meet the needs of new residential settlements and production facilities.

According to Aliyev’s message, one new reservoir has been built and five existing reservoirs have been restored in the regions. In addition, 13 substations and 38 hydroelectric power plants, with a combined capacity of 307 megawatts, have been commissioned.

The president emphasized that establishing Garabagh and East Zangezur as a “green energy zone” remains one of the key priorities in the development of regional infrastructure.

The ongoing projects form part of Azerbaijan’s broader reconstruction and development efforts, aimed at improving connectivity, strengthening energy security, supporting economic activity and creating conditions for sustainable development across Garabagh and East Zangezur.
