Pope returns to Vatican as six-day Congo, South Sudan visit ends
Rome, The Gulf Observer: Pope Francis is set to return to the Vatican on Sunday after his six-day visit to Congo and South Sudan.
Before his departure from Juba, Francis plans to celebrate Mass in the South Sudanese capital on Sunday morning, according to media reports.
During the trip, the pope urged the people and politicians in South Sudan, which is plagued by armed conflict, to pray for peace.
He was accompanied and supported by two Protestant church leaders from the former colonial power Britain: Archbishop of Canterbury and Primate of the Anglican Church Justin Welby and Church of Scotland Moderator Iain Greenshields.
As as result of its colonial past, the country is now a Christian-majority nation with the largest denominations being Catholic, Anglican or Episcopalian and Presbyterian. The church leaders represent these three strands of Christianity.
