CEC of Uzbekistan announces preliminary results of referendum

Tashkent, The Gulf Observer: According to preliminary data, more than 15 million citizens, or 90.21 percent of those who took part in the referendum, voted in favor of introducing changes to the Constitution.
A briefing was held at the CEC press center with the participation of the CEC Deputy Chairman Bakhrom Kuchkorov. It provided information about the voting process in the referendum and announced the preliminary results.
16,673,189 voters out of the 19,722,809 voters included in the lists, took part in the referendum on the draft Constitutional Law, including compatriots who voted abroad. This is 84.54% of the total number of voters.
611,320 voters took advantage of the opportunity to vote early from 19 to 26 April this year. In particular, Uzbekistan citizens abroad took advantage of this opportunity, where 55 referendum sites were created in 39 countries.
According to preliminary data, 90.21% of voters answered “Yes” to the question in the ballot for the referendum “Do you accept the Constitutional Law of the Republic of Uzbekistan “On the Constitution of the Republic of Uzbekistan?”, 9.35% filled in the “No” column and 0.49% of ballots are considered invalid.
“According to the law, a referendum is considered valid if more than 50 percent of citizens took part in the vote”, the CEC Chairman said. “Based on this, we report that we consider the referendum on the draft Constitutional Law in Uzbekistan valid”.
The final results will be announced later.
