President Ilham Aliyev Receives Economic Cooperation Organization Secretary General in Baku
Baku, The Gulf Observer: President of the Republic of Azerbaijan Ilham Aliyev received Asad Majeed Khan, Secretary General of the Economic Cooperation Organization (ECO), in a meeting that underscored Azerbaijan’s active role in the organization and preparations for the upcoming ECO summit.
President Ilham Aliyev highlighted Azerbaijan’s commitment to fostering regional cooperation and noted that the country would host the ECO summit later this year. He emphasized that Secretary General Asad Majeed Khan’s visit provided a valuable opportunity to discuss organizational matters and strategic priorities. The President reaffirmed Azerbaijan’s readiness to contribute to strengthening collaboration among member states and advancing key agenda items within the ECO framework.
Secretary General Asad Majeed Khan commended Azerbaijan’s active participation in the organization and its continuous support for the implementation of vital initiatives. He acknowledged Azerbaijan’s role in hosting the ECO’s subsidiary bodies and its broader contributions to regional economic integration. Emphasizing the shared historical, cultural, and geographical ties among member states, as well as common values and religion, Khan pointed out the significant potential for further cooperation within the organization.
In addition, Asad Majeed Khan praised Azerbaijan’s extensive experience in hosting international events, particularly its successful organization of COP29. He expressed confidence that the upcoming ECO summit in Azerbaijan would be held at a high level, further strengthening regional cooperation.
The Secretary General also noted his upcoming participation in the 12th Global Baku Forum, describing it as a crucial platform for addressing global challenges and fostering international dialogue.
During the meeting, both sides exchanged views on expanding cooperation between Azerbaijan and the Economic Cooperation Organization, reinforcing the commitment to regional economic development and multilateral collaboration.
