Azerbaijan Announces Major Expansion of Garabagh University at Khankendi Conference

Baku, The Gulf Observer: At a conference dedicated to “Heydar Aliyev and Sovereign Azerbaijan,” Minister of Science and Education Emin Amrullayev announced ambitious plans for the expansion of Garabagh University, signaling a renewed focus on education as a cornerstone of development in the Karabakh region, News Hub Consultants reports.
The event was held as part of a series of initiatives stemming from President Ilham Aliyev’s recent decree declaring 2025 as the “Year of Constitution and Sovereignty” in Azerbaijan, underscoring national unity and progress in newly liberated territories.
Minister Amrullayev revealed that Garabagh University is set to grow significantly, with ten faculties planned as part of its future development strategy. By 2030, the university will extend its academic reach beyond Khankendi, with the establishment of two specialized faculties: the Faculty of Music will be based in the cultural capital of Shusha, while the Faculty of Agriculture will be located in Khojaly—two cities central to the region’s historical and strategic significance.
In his address, the minister expressed heartfelt appreciation for the university’s students, highlighting their pivotal role in shaping the institution’s path forward.
“The essence of Garabagh University lies in its students. They play a major role in the university’s development. Their determination and achievements are driving the university forward, and they deserve our heartfelt thanks,” said Amrullayev.
The announcement reflects Azerbaijan’s broader commitment to educational decentralization and post-conflict reconstruction in Karabakh. By investing in higher education and diversifying academic hubs throughout the region, the government aims to empower youth and foster sustainable, locally driven development.
The expansion of Garabagh University is expected to enhance academic access, support regional cultural revival, and contribute to long-term economic growth through education and research tailored to the needs of the Karabakh region.
