Azerbaijan to Initiate Relocation of 20 Families to Shusha City in Early May

Baku, The Gulf Observer: In accordance with the directive of President Ilham Aliyev, the process of repatriating internally displaced persons (IDPs) from Shusha to their native city is set to commence imminently, as announced by the State Committee for Affairs of Refugees and Internally Displaced Persons of the Republic of Azerbaijan.
The Committee conducted a lottery among the families slated for relocation to Shusha city in the initial phase. Notable participants in the event included representatives from the Special Representative of the President of the Republic of Azerbaijan in the Shusha district, the Shusha District Executive Power, and the Public Council under the State Committee. The commencement of the return was met with jubilation by the residents of Shusha, who expressed profound gratitude to President Ilham Aliyev and First Vice-President Mehriban Aliyeva for their unwavering attention and support during the period of forced displacement. Additionally, they appreciated the efforts towards the restoration, reconstruction, and establishment of modern living conditions in the city.
Families relocating to Shusha City will be allocated apartments in multi-story buildings. These residential arrangements will be provided to IDPs who have been temporarily settled across various regions of the republic but are officially registered as residents of Shusha.
In the inaugural lottery, priority was given to families of martyrs, veterans, as well as 20 families actively involved in the city’s construction and reconstruction efforts. Each family was assigned an apartment commensurate with their respective household compositions, ranging from 2 to 5 rooms.
The relocation process for the participating families is scheduled to commence in early May, marking a significant milestone in the ongoing efforts to repatriate displaced individuals to their hometown. Subsequent lotteries among families earmarked for relocation to Shusha City will be conducted in progressive stages, ensuring a systematic and inclusive approach to the repatriation initiative.
