Azerbaijan’s Foreign Ministry Announces Conclusion of Negotiations on Draft Peace Agreement with Armenia

Baku, The Gulf Observer: Azerbaijan’s Ministry of Foreign Affairs has announced the conclusion of negotiations on the text of the draft Agreement on Peace and the Establishment of Interstate Relations between Azerbaijan and Armenia. In an official statement, the ministry expressed satisfaction with this development, marking a significant milestone in efforts to normalize relations between the two neighboring countries.
“We note with satisfaction that the negotiations on the text of the draft Agreement on Peace and the Establishment of Interstate Relations between Azerbaijan and Armenia have been concluded,” the statement read.
However, Azerbaijan reiterated its long-standing position that the amendment of Armenia’s constitution to remove claims against Azerbaijan’s sovereignty and territorial integrity remains a prerequisite for signing the finalized agreement.
“We also reiterate the long-lasting and principled position of Azerbaijan that the amendment to Armenia’s constitution to eliminate the claims against the sovereignty and territorial integrity of Azerbaijan is a prerequisite to allow the signing of the negotiated text,” the ministry emphasized.
Additionally, Azerbaijan called for the formal abolition of the Minsk Group and related structures of the Organization for Security and Co-operation in Europe (OSCE), describing them as obsolete and ineffective in the current context.
The ministry reaffirmed Azerbaijan’s commitment to advancing the normalization process, stating, “We are ready to continue the bilateral dialogue on these and other issues related to the normalization process between the two countries.”
This development follows years of diplomatic efforts aimed at achieving a lasting peace settlement between Azerbaijan and Armenia after decades of conflict. The conclusion of the negotiation process represents a crucial step toward establishing stable and constructive bilateral relations in the region.
