Azerbaijan’s Parliament Commission Warns of Ongoing Disinformation Campaign Orchestrated via Social Media

Baku, The Gulf Observer: The Commission on Foreign Interference and Hybrid Threats of the Milli Majlis (National Assembly) of Azerbaijan has issued a public statement exposing a coordinated disinformation campaign targeting the country through social media platforms, Azernews has reported.
According to the commission, these unfriendly activities are being orchestrated from the territory of a neighboring country, primarily using Facebook to infiltrate Azerbaijan’s information space. Several accounts and pages — namely Echo of Baku, Azeri Horizon, Xəbər24, Merry You, Azerbaijan Pulse, and Az Insight — have been identified as tools in a campaign designed to manipulate public opinion and undermine Azerbaijan’s domestic and foreign policy successes.
The statement reveals that posts often contain geopolitical manipulation and are initially published in the Azerbaijani language before directing users to external links (such as Telegra.ph), which are reportedly being used to collect sensitive user data — including IP addresses and device information. This practice has raised serious privacy and cybersecurity concerns.
The commission emphasized that state institutions are actively monitoring and responding to these operations through inter-agency coordination. It further confirmed that, based on official complaints submitted to Meta, several of the identified Facebook pages have already been removed.
Citizens have been urged to exercise caution and refrain from engaging with unverified information. The commission reiterated its ongoing commitment to informing the public about hybrid threats and foreign interference tactics directed against Azerbaijan.
