Shaikh Ebrahim Centre celebrates Century of cinema in Bahrain
Manama, The Gulf Observer: The Shaikh Ebrahim bin Mohammed Al Khalifa Centre for Culture and Research has held a ceremony marking the century of the cinema in Bahrain (1922-2022) at its main hall in Muharraq.
During the event, Chairperson of the Board of Trustees of the Shaikh Ebrahim bin Mohammed Al Khalifa Centre for Culture and Research, Shaikha Mai bint Mohammed Al Khalifa, delivered a statement in which she thanked those in charge of the ceremony.
The event focused on the history of cinema in Bahrain. Yusif Salahuddin spoke about the entry of the cinema to Bahrain, when Mahmood Al Saati brought a cinematic projection machine in 1922, and showed the first silent film to viewers. He also highlighted the role played by the Al-Gosaibi Cinema and Bapco Company in promoting this art across the kingdom in 1930s and 1940s.
The celebration also included an exhibition that reflects the history of cinema, overseen by photographers Hanan Hassan Al Khalifa, Asma Jassim Murad, and Kumail Zakaria.
The event also featured the screening of the Moroccan film “Fatema, the Unforgettable Sultana”, in the presence of its Director, Mohammed Abdulrahman Tazi.
The film depicts the life and well-grounded academic legacy of Moroccan feminist writer and sociologist Fatema Mernissi, who had visited the Shaikh Ebrahim Centre twice.
