Beijing, The Gulf Observer: On Sunday afternoon, Chairman of the National Assembly Vương Đình Huệ and a high-level Vietnamese delegation arrived in Beijing, China, to embark on an official visit from April 7 to 12. This visit comes at the invitation of Zhao Leji, Chairman of the Standing Committee of the National People’s Congress of China.

Upon their arrival at Beijing Capital International Airport, the top Vietnamese legislator and his delegation were warmly welcomed by Vice Chairperson of the NPC Standing Committee Wang Dongming and other senior officials of the NPC. Vietnamese Ambassador to China Phạm Sao Mai, embassy staff, and representatives from the Vietnamese community in China were also present to extend a warm reception.

Accompanying Chairman Vương Đình Huệ are Secretary of the Party Central Committee and head of the committee’s Mass Mobilisation Commission Bùi Thị Minh Hoài, Senior Lieutenant General Trần Quang Phương (NA Vice Chairman and Chairman of the Việt Nam-China Friendship Parliamentarians’ Group), Deputy Prime Minister Trần Lưu Quang, NA General Secretary and Chairman of the NA Office Bùi Văn Cường, and other officials.

This visit marks Chairman Vương Đình Huệ’s first official trip to China in his capacity as Chairman of the National Assembly and represents the first visit to China by a Chairman of the National Assembly of Việt Nam in five years. It also signifies the first direct meeting between the heads of the legislative bodies of the two countries following the 13th National Congress of the Communist Party of Việt Nam and the 20th Congress of the Communist Party of China.

The visit holds significant importance in maintaining high-level diplomatic engagements and translating common understandings into concrete actions between the highest leadership of both Parties and states. It not only aims to strengthen cooperation between the legislative bodies of the two nations but also represents a strategic exchange at the highest levels between Việt Nam and China.

The visit occurs amid the backdrop of the 73rd anniversary of diplomatic relations and 15 years of bilateral comprehensive strategic cooperative partnership between Việt Nam and China, celebrated in 2023.

Bilateral trade between the two countries has been robust, reaching US$133.09 billion in 2020, $165.9 billion in 2021, $175 billion in 2022, and $171.9 billion in 2023, as per data from Vietnamese customs. In the first two months of 2024, bilateral trade totaled $27.3 billion.

In terms of investment, China has made significant contributions to Việt Nam’s economy, with Chinese investment amounting to $27.64 billion across 4,418 valid projects as of March 2024. China remains a key investor in Việt Nam, leading in the number of new projects and continuing to foster economic cooperation between the two nations.
