Beijimg, The Europe Today: China’s Ministry of Commerce (MOC) expressed optimism on Friday that the ongoing consultations with the European Union (EU) regarding the EU’s anti-subsidy investigation into China-made electric vehicles (EVs) will lead to a mutually acceptable outcome.

The MOC’s statement followed a video discussion on October 25 between Chinese Commerce Minister Wang Wentao and European Commission Executive Vice President and Trade Commissioner Valdis Dombrovskis. The ministry confirmed that technical teams from both sides promptly commenced a new phase of negotiations focused on price commitment.

After extensive communication, the MOC noted that the EU has expressed readiness to continue detailed consultations on the proposed plan while visiting China. “China welcomes this and hopes that the next phase of consultations will follow the principle of pragmatism and balance to reach a solution acceptable to both sides,” the MOC stated.

The discussions come in the wake of the EU’s announcement on October 29 that it would impose definitive countervailing duties of up to 35.3 percent on electric vehicles imported from China for the next five years. The decision marks a significant step in the EU’s efforts to address alleged unfair trade practices.

China’s Ministry of Commerce emphasized the importance of a constructive dialogue, aiming for an agreement that maintains the interests of both parties and contributes to the healthy development of the global electric vehicle market.
