France Offers Police Officers Bonuses for 2024 Paris Olympics Deployment

France Offers Police

Paris, The Gulf Observer: In an effort to secure police presence during the 2024 Paris Olympics, France’s Interior Minister, Gerald Darmanin, announced bonuses of up to 1,900 euros ($2,050) for police officers willing to work during the sporting event. The details of the bonus structure were outlined in a letter addressed to police personnel.

The government has been actively engaging with public service unions to ensure adequate coverage for the Olympics, scheduled to take place from July 26 to August 11, amid the country’s holiday season.

Darmanin emphasized the commitment to providing necessary resources to ensure fair remuneration for officers’ dedication and to fund social support measures during the high-profile event.

To incentivize police officers, those agreeing to reduce their annual leave during the Games will receive a bonus of 1,000 euros. The bonus can potentially rise to 1,600 euros for officers stationed in proximity to the Olympic venues. Additionally, officers working in and around Paris, as well as those deployed at border checkpoints and Paris airports, will receive an extra 300 euros.

The move comes in response to concerns raised by police unions, asserting that the sacrifices made by officers, including forgoing vacation plans and arranging additional childcare, are not adequately acknowledged by the government.

Despite heightened security alerts and existing tensions related to global events, Darmanin expressed the aim for “100% mobilization” of police forces during the Olympics. He also assured officers a minimum of 10 days of leave between June and September to address concerns about fatigue and well-being. The bonuses are intended to recognize and compensate officers for their crucial role in ensuring public safety during this major international event.
