Vietnam, UN Pledge Deeper Cooperation on Green Growth and Global Challenges

Hanoi, The Gulf Observer: State President Lương Cường on Thursday called on the United Nations (UN) to continue supporting Vietnam in a range of priority areas, including the implementation of the Sustainable Development Goals (SDGs), building a rule-of-law state, promoting digital transformation, advancing the green transition, addressing climate change, and tackling emerging global challenges.
The appeal was made during President Cường’s meeting with UN Deputy Secretary-General Amina J. Mohammed, who is currently in Vietnam to attend the 4th Partnering for Green Growth and the Global Goals 2030 (P4G) Summit. The summit is the first multilateral forum on green growth, green transition, and sustainable development to be hosted by Vietnam.
President Cường welcomed Mohammed’s participation, underscoring the UN’s steadfast commitment to promoting sustainable development and addressing global challenges. He reaffirmed Vietnam’s appreciation for its growing cooperation with the UN, particularly in the areas of climate resilience and inclusive growth.

“Vietnam highly values the United Nations’ critical role over the past eight decades in safeguarding international peace and security and promoting cooperation for sustainable development,” President Cường said. “We are especially grateful for the UN’s enduring support throughout Vietnam’s post-war reconstruction, renewal process, and ongoing integration into the global community.”
The President reiterated Vietnam’s strong commitment to multilateralism with the United Nations at its core. He affirmed that Vietnam continues to pursue a foreign policy rooted in independence, self-reliance, diversification, and multilateralisation of international relations, and remains an active and responsible member of the international community.
For her part, Deputy Secretary-General Amina J. Mohammed praised Vietnam’s important contributions to the UN’s work, especially in areas such as peacekeeping, sustainable development, and South-South cooperation. She expressed the UN’s eagerness to further strengthen cooperation and to share Vietnam’s development experiences with global partners.
During the meeting, both sides also exchanged views on pressing global and regional challenges, and the importance of defending multilateralism. They agreed to bolster cooperation in promoting the UN’s role in global governance and upholding its foundational principles established in 1945.
