Indonesian BSI Tower set to become Islamic financial center

Jakarta, The Gulf Observer: State-run Bank Syariah Indonesia (BSI) Tower in Jakarta is set to become an Islamic financial center and an iconic structure, as it is being constructed opposite the Danareksa Tower, State-Owned Enterprises Minister Erick Thohir stated on Thursday.

He remarked that development of the BSI Tower has entered a new stage, marked by a groundbreaking ceremony that officially initiated the physical construction of the building.

“This is a tremendous asset that will serve as one of the Islamic financial centers. We are constructing the BSI Tower as a twin to the Danareksa Tower,” he said during the groundbreaking ceremony.

The Danareksa Tower is owned by state-run holding company Danareksa.

He added that it was a right decision for BSI and Danareksa to invest in the towers as they are situated in the vicinity of the iconic National Monument (Monas), he said.

Thohir also stated that he has urged president directors of both companies to develop the BSI Tower as an Islamic financial center, emphasizing the building’s modern Middle Eastern design.

He said that he would talk to Danareksa to set up a property fund.

“In future, the assets of state-owned enterprises that are located around Monas should be interconnected in a single platform,” Thohir stated.

He also referred to a discussion held with Jakarta Acting Governor Heru Budi Hartono, saying that the Jakarta government envisions the area around Monas as one of the key centers for economic growth in Jakarta, particularly after the relocation of Indonesia’s capital city to Nusantara, East Kalimantan.

“The area around Monas is envisioned to become a green space, allowing Jakarta to compete with other major cities around the world, much like New York with its Central Park,” Thohir stated.

He then expressed hope that after the completion of development of its own tower, BSI will continue to improve its performance.
